Endless Naps - "Hope In Harlem"
I went looking for a tight race that came a long way
And now I’m in the right place but on the wrong day
Everybody want this outcome, so it needs starting
And though everybody wants Malcolm, they need Martin
Still I grew to a fighter equal to brawler
And as my view got wider people got smaller
I use to mess up like a goof, but now I’m passionate
And I don’t just dress up the truth, I fashion it
I want to take from fame and have to whole earth eating
‘Cause there’s no point in making a name unless it’s worth repeating
My joy has diminished, but still I got plans
‘Cause when a boy’s dreams are finished, it’s time to start a man’s
So I got hope in Harlem
I got hope in Harlem
And it’s the hope of stardom
So I got hope in Harlem
I can be found alone on the right block
More into the brown stone than the white rock
‘Cause I don’t stick my nose out if the business ain’t mine
Still everybody shows doubt when they hit this line
SO much I took out on others
Trying look out for my brothers
And I would tell them I’ll always be around, I won’t sleep even when I’m dead
‘Cause 6 feet in ground ain’t as deep as what I’ve said
And for us to attack whoever they decide is so villainous
I call it black suicide ‘cause we killing us
My joy has diminished, but still I got plans
‘Cause when a boy’s dreams are finished, it’s time to start a man’s
So I got hope in Harlem
I got hope in Harlem
And it’s the hope of stardom
So I got hope in Harlem
I’m still chasing the ones I ain’t got time to love
And like replacing funds they’re all a dime or above
Coke Bottles
Made from broke model
Ladies who miss the street
‘Cause so many kiss their feet
And even I go from rusty to gritty
For a busty biddy
But still I’m from a trust free city
You don’t bring your heart to Harlem, just like you don’t show your hand to a teach
‘Cause even if you’re smart and can charm them, you just a sand to a beach
And if I seem to be a cynic, that’s ‘cause the brain is showing
I seen a whole team be in the clinic ‘cause that’s where the train was going
My joy has diminished, but still I got plans
‘Cause when a boy’s dreams are finished, it’s time to start a man’s
So I got hope in Harlem
I got hope in Harlem
And it’s the hope of stardom
So I got hope in Harlem
