My Hometown

Woke up this morning in my hometown
Rubbed the sleep from my eyes, took a look around See the children playing, such a happy sound
Life seems so easy, in my hometown

Woke up this morning in my hometown
Black smoke horizon, thunder all around
Brother dodgin’ bullets, sister kneelin’ on the ground Picking up the pieces, of my hometown

Woke up this morning in my hometown
Front page blanket, on the cold cold ground
I Wander the streets, till the night time rolls around Living like a refugee, in my hometown

Woke up this morning in my hometown
Dropped my child off at school, feelin’ proud
Heard the sirens wailing, another lockdown
And one less child on the playground, in my hometown

Woke up this morning in my hometown
Bombs and bullets, flying’ all around
Friends and neighbors layin’ dead on the ground No one and nothing left, in my hometown

Woke up this morning in my hometown
Saw a babe in a manger, wise men all around
There’s a million other hungry, homeless down and out Need another miracle in my hometown.

Woke up this morning.....in your hometown
